Is An Elopement In Paris Legal?


Yes, it is!

The French law only accepts civil marriage performed by a French civil authority in a town hall. However, you have to reside in France for at least 40 days before the marriage. Specific documentation also must be provided to legally marry. But while taking a 40+ day hiatus sounds amazing, it's not quite realistic for most.


For these reasons, many couples choose to have their civil ceremony in their home country to legally marry. A Paris elopement is the perfect way to symbolically celebrate your union and intimately enjoy the City of Love exactly the way you want to!



Choosing Your Locations


My favorite thing about eloping is that you literally create the rules of your day. Your day could be as simple and classic as privatizing a room in your favorite Parisian restaurant or having a picnic in the Luxembourg Gardens.

Or it can be as glamorous as booking a hotel rooftop or even privatizing a section of a luxury hotel!


There's an over abundance of amazing restaurants, gardens and rooftops in Paris that you can celebrate in once you're here. That's for the truly adventurous free birds - and not everyone is so comfortable with keeping things so spontaneous.

For my wedding, we rented a boat that sailed us and our 20 guests along the Seine throughout Paris all night! It was magical truly. We boarded at 8pm - had a cocktail hour, then sailed from 9pm-11pm and danced in front of the sparkling Eiffel Tower from 11pm - 2am! It was a dream! Click here to see their website!


A few of my top restaurant choices to reserve for your wedding meal are Cafe De L'homme - It's RIGHT by the Eiffel Tower + was featured in Emily In Paris when she went to the epic party by this iconic beauty! Bel Canto, MonCoeur Belleville (With a great Eiffel Tower view too!). That's just a few but seriously there are hundreds. My all time favorite rooftop hotel to reserve is The Terrass Hotel. This is a great option as well because...well who doesn't want to party on a rooftop?! And you have the perfect Eiffel Tower view! This place is both beautiful and functional - there's an open area and a glassed in area too - in case of rain!
