Petite Ceinture:An abandoned railway turned urban jungle
12th, 15th & 20th arrondissement
The Petite Ceinture (“Little Belt”) is a former railway line that encircles Paris. Today, sections have been transformed into green spaces, walking paths, urban gardens, and scenic trails through lesser-known parts of the city. For urban explorers, the Petite Ceinture is a fascinating blend of history, nature, and hidden Parisian charm. Some of my favorite stretches include the 15th Arrondissement section with a landscaped walking path. The Promenade Plantée in the 12th Arrondissement section repurposes old railways into greenways. The 20th Arrondissement section (near Rue de Bagnolet) creates a peaceful retreat where nature has reclaimed the tracks.

Le Marais Courtyards: Quiet escapes in the city's most vibrant district

This peaceful retreat is perfect for relaxing and reflecting year-round. Village Saint-Paul has a hidden cluster of courtyards with antique shops, art galleries, and quaint cafes. It’s an ideal spot for treasure hunters seeking the artistic soul of Paris. Hotel de Sully offers a gateway to the Place des Vosges and an oasis of calm amidst the city’s bustle. Its gardens and striking facade are one of my favorite tranquil spots to visit. Cour Damoye is an enchanting alleyway near Place de la Bastille, lined with artists’ studios and boutiques. Its cobblestone path and ivy-clad buildings create a perfect setting for a stroll.
